George William Macy

URBANDALE - George William Macy, 77, of Urbandale, formerly of Conrad passed away Sunday, Jan. 25, 2026, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Cremation rites have been accorded. No services will be held at this time. Arrangements have been entrusted with Anderson Funeral Homes in Conrad. Online condolences may be sent to www.andersonfhs.com

Born on Feb. 27, 1948, to James and Genevieve Macy, George grew up in Liscomb and attended Beaman-Conrad-Liscomb (BCL) schools. He married Jeannie (Vint) Macy, the love of his life, on July 18, 1970, and together they made their home in Conrad, where they raised their two children, Justin and Andrea.

George worked for many years at Fisher Controls in Marshalltown. After he and Jeannie retired, they moved to Urbandale to be closer to their grandchildren.

George’s passion was traveling with Jeannie. They loved going on cruises, traveling to warm destinations, drinking and dancing together, and enjoying their travel adventures. At home, he enjoyed relaxing, cheering on the Hawkeyes and Cyclones, and making people laugh with his quick wit and storytelling from a life well lived.

In 2017, George began a difficult journey with glioblastoma, a form of brain cancer. Against the odds, his treatment was successful, and the experience became one of the defining stories of his life; it was one marked by resilience and determination. It did not diminish the quality of the years that followed.

George is survived by his children, Justin (Susan) Macy of Ankeny, and Andrea Macy (Jon Harcey) of Van Meter; three grandchildren, Aurora, Lorelei, and Fiona Harcey; and his sisters, Kay Cahalan, Mary Delaney and Judy Glass. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeannie Macy; his parents; his brother, Don Macy; and his sister, Margie Elliott.

The family requests those who wish to express sympathy consider making a donation in George’s name to a local food bank.
